The students will experience research by being directly involved in ongoing research projects. They will learn advanced techniques while gaining valuable insights and experiences through interaction with UT students and faculty.
This is a unique opportunity that will give high school students a real taste of life as a researcher. Each student will be placed in a research group based on their interests, availability, and space. Biology: Our lab is investigating the mechanisms used by proteins that regulate gene expression in cancer.
We are interested in understanding how changes in the structure of specific proteins changes their function. Over middle and high school students, all inspired to pursue careers in health sciences, were immersed in topics ranging from vaccine development, aerospace research, health disparities, sports medicine and more.
The virtual camp explored how scientists and physicians are tackling current problems, incorporating advancements in the field and learning about what is on the horizon for the future in medicine. Dell Med partners with local school districts to fill enrollment and ensure the camps are serving local students well.
These students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the open application, which includes a few short-answer questions for students to complete.
Current 7th and 8th grade students attend the middle school camp. Current 9th and 10th grade students attend the high school camp. Selections are made on a first-come, first-served basis from the first 25 high school applicants and the first 25 middle school applicants. Submitting an application does not guarantee automatic acceptance into the camp, and the application must be completed in full to be considered.
Do not submit more than one application per student. By submitting an application you acknowledge, if selected, you will attend the full week of camp in its entirety; partial attendance is not acceptable. Please make appropriate plans to your schedule in advance. Partial scholarships are available for other families in need of financial assistance.
The camps supply materials, but students must have internet and a suitable device to access it. Dell Med programs, including the camps, are working to make sure an increasingly diverse body of students have opportunity to explore the health professions.

In this case an invitee may start the second week and participate the remaining 9 weeks. The Summer Experience Program is planning for on-campus research projects as we have in the past. However, if our present situation continues through Summer , we will offer remote research opportunities instead. We will inform those still active in the process if the current on-campus plan changes.
This compensation is meant to subsidize cost of living expenses for students and is considered income and subject to all applicable taxes and fees.
